3 Marche 1512 (4 Henry VIII). John Bodyam
Citezein and merchaunt tailor of London. To be buried within the
parrishe churche of Saynct Awntelyne of London wher I am a parrishenr
nygh to the ?pue door where my wife useth to sytte.
My goodes etc. into ij eqall parts whereof I woll that
Johan my wife shalhave oone in name of hir full and resonable part after
the use and custome of the Citie of London and the other I reserve unto
my self and myne extours towards the perfourmaunce of thise my legacyes
etc.
To high aulter of said church 6/8. I will that for my
dirige and ? thir be ordeyned xvj torches and 4 tapers to burne aboute
my corps at my buryall to bee holden with 20 poore mene every man having
for his labor 8d whiche 20 torches after my funeralls as
foloweth. 2 to said parish churche of Saynt Awntelynes, 2 to parish
churche of Saynct Lawrence Pounteney of London, 2 to parish churche of
St Martyne Orgar, 2 to St Mighell in croked Lane. 2 to St. Peters in
Cornehylle, oone to parish churche of Fotyscray in Kent, oone to parish
churche of Polliscray in Kent, oone to parish churche of Chislherst in
Kent, oone to the brotherhode of Corpus Xti. in the parish churche
of Saynct Mary Wolner in Lombardstret and rest at discr. of my
exours.
Preest to syng for my soule, soules of my father and mother
wifs and childern at the aulter of our Lady in the foresaid parish
churche of Seynct Awontleyn vij yeres the said preest to bee ?adydny and
helpyng at all divyne services to be said and song in said churche. And
I woll that the same preest ij tymes every yer duryng the saide vij
yeres shal go unto the chapell at Westmynster where my Lady the Kyngs
graundmother lieth buried and therin like wise say his masses for my
soule and the soules aforesaid and at every of the ij tymes syngyng
masse at Our Lady of Pewe and of the viij tymes syngyng his masse in the
saide chapell at Westmynster. I will that the said preest shall say
placebo Dirige and comendacon for my soule and the soules aforesaid. And
I will also that the said preest at every of his masses to bee song and
said duryng the said vij yeres shall toorne hymself at the furst
Lavatory to the people and ther say for my soule and the soules
aforesaid the Psalme of the profundis with the colet therto requisite.
The said preeste to have for his salary and wagies yerely vijli
quarterly to bee paid.
To the olde warks of the Cathedrall and my mother churche
of Saynct Poule of London 6/8 Daily duryng a moneth after my buryng a
dirige and masse of Requiem within the churche of Sainct Auntelen to bee
lowly withoute note said and doone by the preests and clerks of the same
churche.
To mariage of 20 poor maydens of good conversacon every
suche mayde 6/8. To the 4 various orders of Freres in London 13/4 that
they with their convent bryng my body to the buryng and every house say
a trentall of masses within their convent churches. To the crocked
Freres of London 13/4 to same extent and Freres observauants at
Grenewiche.
[To each prison 10s in brede or other vitailles
for prisoners and poor folk in the Hospitall of Bedlem without
Busshoppesgate 10s]. To the house of ?Mynatys withoute Algate
10s.
To the felawshippe and crafte of Merchaunt tailors of
London toward their newe byldyngs by the gate of or omon halle xxli.
To every of the children of Thomas Masset late decessed
beyng on lyve at the tyme of my decesse xls at their laufull
ages or marige.
To the wife of John Castell of thexchequier as in the way
of restitution xls. Unto my susters ij soonnes xls
that is either of theym xxs.
To the Charterhouse without Smythefeld to pray for my soule
xs. To poor people the day of my buryng £4 to pray. Toward
the buyldyng of my mother churche of Poules in London in restitution of
suche wronges as I have doone to anny persons whiche I came not call to
my Remembrance xls. For like cause of restitution I bequethe
unto the churche basilik of Saynct Petir in Rome xls. Toward
the buyldyng and reparations of the churche of Saynct Auntelyn £3.6.8.
X marks for the keping of an obite in saide churche for my soule etc
yerely x yeres at every suche obit xs that is to wite to the
maister and the crafte for the tyme beyng 12d to every of the
wardeynes 8d a pece and to the Clerk and bedyell vjd
a peece and residue in almesse among poor people. To Johan my mayde 20s.
To Margaret that was my mayde 20s. To my suster
xls. To every of the persones folowny a blak gowne: my wife,
myne exors and their wifs myn ovverseer and his wife, Agnes my doughter,
Johan Wyllford my suster Coombes wife Johan my mayde and every of myn
apprentices.
To Johane my wife all my lands and tenements in Fotscray in
Kent and all the termes of yeres I have for to come of and in the
same.
I will Agnes my dou. have all my lands and tenements in the
Citie of Canntorbury to her and her heires. To said Agnes my doughter
viij wrethe after toonne facion with ij dymysents and a smalle cheque of
gold whiche I lent my wife to wer she to have theym after the decesse of
my wife. To saide Agnes a cuppe of sylver with Knyght worke and the
cover of the same with a columbyne and my ?trussny bed made with gyrthes
and all that belongth that is to say fetherbed bolster pillowes shets
blanketts celer tester frenge valence of sylk and gold, curteynes of
sylk and to the same bed an other hangyng of Barlet purfild with white ?mymguer
and powdred with ermynes belongyng to the forsaid bed. Residue after the
discretions of myne extors

London pewterer.
On 16 April 1513 I john Bodyam lego Henrici Halwhitster
unam togam de Russset penulat de fox. Johin Humble 20s
Clemencee Watson 20s. Elizabeth Wagar 20s. To eche
of Thos. Stokton and Antony Stokton childern of Henry Stokton £10 on
cond. neither make no further clayme to no others heyre [sic]. To Thos.
Blisset £4 and a blak gowne. Richd. Travers a blak gowne. Wit. John
Trisewell, Thos. Spreyght, John Gooune and John Willford.
Probate [not filled in]. Will before 27 April 1513, next 27
April 1513.
