6 March 1499 (15 Henry VII). Thomas Laman
citezin and bochier of London. To be buried in the parlor of the chirch
yarde of Saint Leonard in Estchepe beside the place whir the body of
Elizabeth late my wife lieth there buryed. To high awter of Saint
Leonards in Estchepe where I am a prsshor 3/4. I wol the ? of my buryng
and monthes mynde be honestly done without pompe of the world to the
whiche I wol be had viij alle newe torchies whereof aftre one wnto the
high awter of Saint Leonards chirch to the Augmentation of crists light
there, another to the fratnite of our ladies brotherhed in the same
chirch and to the chirch of Erith another torche and to the high awter
of Lesnes Abbey a nother of the Remaiint of the said torchies to be
disposed by my wife and ouerseers.
An honest prest to singe and pray for my soule my fader and
moder soules, Elizabeth late my wife soule and all xten soules n masses
dirigs and comendacons and other blessed prayours and meditacons for the
Remission of oure synnes and to the helth of oure soules in the chirch
of Saint Leonard by the space of sixe yeres and for his salary x marc
whiche prest I wol be bounde to be at alle ? ? ? in the saide chirch in
every solempne festivall day there to be auxiliant and helping aftre his
science and konnyng during the said vj yeres. To the fratnite of our
lady in the said church of St Leonards 3/4.
Unto my sonne Wm. Leman to his furtherannce and begynnyng
in this world xl marc of money and beside that xij old nobles of goold a
tonne of iron lying in the hands of Stephen Frende draper a standing cup
with a cap of silver pcell gilt which was my faders a federbed a pair of
blankets twoo paire of shets a grene ? a pillowe and a bolster alle when
he comith oute of his times of apprenticehood. If he decease as god
defende then in almes deds.
I will Roose my wife have and enjoye my other xij nobles of
old goold.
I will said Stephen Frende have and enjoye that hoggeshed
of iron that he hath of myne in his handis.
To Agnes Laman my suster v marc. To my feliship my standing
cup of silver gilt with a ?condition to have me put for a memory all in
ther bederoll. Unto Richard my servunt his hoole due wages and 40s for a
Reward.
To Thomas my prentice undre condicion that he service oute
his yeris with my wife or els with suche as she will assigne 40s. Undre
like condicion unto John Nicoll my prentise 20s. Unto Anne my servunt
hir wages and 10/- for a reward yf she serve oute her Covenunt with my
wife. To Kathrine my mayde 6/8. To Alice Markam my wifs suster 20s.
Residue to Rose my wife and executrice and hir coaduitors I
make John Wolston the eldre and John Gyver Citezins of London Wit. Wm
Praty glover, Thos Stephens grocer and Robert Bolton taylor, Citezins of
London.
Last Will of my tenenements and lands in the towne parish
and feldis of Erith in Kent I wol the said Roose my wife have my two
tenements in Erith with the gardyn plotte belongyng for hir leffe The
Remaynder unto the said Wm. Laman my sonne. I wol the same Wm. have alle
my landes within the Towne parish and feeldes aforesaide except the said
ij tenements and gardyn plotte during the lief of my wife
My wife and overseers to rule and gide tyll my sonne be
come oute of his yeris of appntizehood. If he decease then to be sold
and money in Almesdedis, etc.
Codicil. Above my legacies to the said William my sonne the
viijli the which the foresaid Elizabeth late my wifes moder bequest uto
him. If he be not contentyd as for his porcion by the lawe and custome
of the citte of London I woll my Will as to my lands etc. to the said
William be utterly voyde but that my said lands be ate the free wil and
dispocion of my said wife and my said sonne have ufry goodes as the
custome and lawe of the Citte will require.
