20 August 1472 13? ????????? John Groveherst of Dartford in the Shire of Kent to be buried in the parish church of Dartford. To the Vicar to pray for me xxs I bequeth xx?    I wille myn Satour? In the day after? Dethe? Doo? Make to be said for me in the said parish church Parish. Dartford and C a masse of Requiem by ?note on the morrow. And a masse of our Lady to be said the next after by ?note and every Priest clerke and child that sgyeth In the Church ? is all my dirge? And masses to be rewarded as it hath been? of ?oolde ?tyme Accustumed or better.

   To Nicholas DRASCE? fesshmonger of London 20s Thomas STORY? hosier dwelly in Watlyngstrete 10s To  PEPHAM fishmonger in Olde Fishstrete 6s 8d To the Priour? and Convent of Rouchestour to be spended on/to the ?VSE of the hours 13s 4d. To the preeste of the Charnell of Poules 13s 4d. To the susten/utacies? of the Chapell of the same Chardnell in such things? as is moost necessary 40s To every servant that ?swellith with my Brother STOKTON in his hous 6s 8d.    Also I will their be laid/said? in the church of Dartford by the advyce of myn sxtons vijl sanely to be kept in a cheste to this entent that the vicar[a]ge of the same church & all the preestes & clerkes of the same continually a-bydyng be ones [once] a yere durying the terme of vij yere in the same church att such tyme as I was buried to pray for the soules of John Groveherst Wa[l]ter Groveherst & Margaret & Margaret Groveherst my fader & moder & for all the soules that I am indetted to pray for & for all Cristen soules. That is to say the vycars? & all the foresaid preests & clerkes shall Placebo, D[irge] & C[ommendation] be note on the day of my burieng & masse of Requiem be note on the morowe 
   And I will their be spended yerely of the saw? vijl duryng the terme of my yere xxs that is to say in brede ale wyne & chese amonge the preests clerkes chyldren & the ringers of the Bellys 3/4. Also I wille their be doled at my masse to an C [100] of pouere men & women ewych of [t]hem 1d if their be so many at my dirige & masse of the p[a]rish their & if their be notte thanne I wille if their be any Bedred men or women or feble aged folke of the same that may nott com their that they have such money as the men & the women have that be att my dirige & masse. Also evry preste of the same church that is at my dirige & masse vjd & evry of the Clerkes 4d and the ringers of the belles yerely that ryngyth att my monethies myude? xxd for their labour. And if the Sexten will desire more thane his dieute of oolde tyme is accustomed to have for tyme… hym self thane I will that the Sexten have the xxd as it hath be accustomed of oolde tyme to have. And that yt ????queth of XXd after the Sexten paied I will that it be departed a mong the pouere men that ryngeth the belles. To the ij church wardens of the same church for the tyme being to see this ?obite? frieuly doon & kepte yerely during the terme of vij yere ewych of the ij shal have xiijd yerely for their labour & offryngs att the high masse of Requiem and if any of the ij wardens lakke att any tyme of the service doing duryng the terme of vij yere as it is afore written thanne I will that the warden that is att the church & attendyth and ?saith? the service afore written frieuly doon & kept have the money that bothe wardens shuld have had. And if none of these ij wardens woll se this doon & kepte thanne
   I will that the vicars of the same church shall do it in his owne persone if he be in helth of body in manere ?of?ourne? as the wardens shuld have doon it havyng the same reward. Se?? always who so ??? doo it that he offyr yerely att my masse in the wyrship of God duying the terme of vij yere iijd. To the new making condite [conduit] of the Collage of Cobham xx mrc so that the said Condite stretche fro the Collage to the town as it have be of oolde tyme used. 
   To the repacian of the Steple and to the bellys of the p[ar]ish church of Derteford xx mrc to be received of the revenuz of my landes att such tyme as they be sold & paied for. 
   Also I will their be xx marc disposed by myn executours that is for to say in repacion of pouere churches pouere housholders having many children & to ????????? mariajs dwelly in the p[ar]ishes of D[artford], Sutton Wylmyngton Stone Swannyscombe Mepeham & Herteley. 
   I wyll my Feoffes make or do to make a state of my Crofte called att this day Ashcombyscrooft after the best fourne/tourne of lawe as the vicar and the wardens of the p[ar]ish churche of D[artford] for the tyme being And they to calle to ???? vj of the p[a]rish such as they canne think best disposed & wittiest will desire to be made and that it be doon immediately within halfe a yere of my dethe to fulfille this my last wille that is to say I will that the money that comyth yerely of the Issues & profilez of the same Croft which is worth yerely over iijs vjd that it paieth to Roger Appelton for Graunsom rent, ixs vjd be imployed & spended to the sustentacion of ?sundry? of xvj lb of wexe for the pascall and for ij lb Candeles that is ordeigned with the Pascall yerely in the p[arish] church of D[artford] for ever more. And for making of the same Pascall & wexe Candelles seing and to provide alway that no man woman nor childe dwelling in the dwelling Derteford (sic) nor no straungers pay no money to the sustentacion of the Pascall with the ij lb of Candells nor to the making therof but utterly be fre & discharged yerely of any payments therto for ever more. Butt of their grete charitee I will desire & hertely pay all the p[a]rish[i]on[er]s of D[artford] to pray the Vicars for the tyme being that he will pray every Ester Day yerely ever mor. To be doon in the Pulpett for my soul John Groveherst Walter G[roveherst] & Margaret G[roveherst] my Fader & Moder soules & for all the soules that I am indetted to pray for. 
   Also I bequeath to John Custans V daughters of D[artford] xx? quart of Barlye to be deled evenly among them to that entent that John C[ustans] & his wife shall put all this barly in making to malte & all incresse that comyth of the same malte The first yere I will that Margarete Custans have it & with the incresse that she hath of the same malte I will that she by Barly & incresse it yerly unto her own propr use as it will please god & so ewych of the same iiij [sic] daughters of the foresaid John Custans as they been of age shal have all the hole stok of Barley yerely for ??? ??? in alle maner & ????? & in lyke cas as Margaret Custans had it. If any of the v daughters dy or they be maryed thanne I will that ?????? or their parte or partes of barly or of malte that duth be evenly departed a mong them that levith.
   I wille that myn executours by a Stone of marbyll to ly upon me with an image wrought upon the same stone and my name gravyd upon the same stone & the day & yere of my dethe price the stone iiij??. Also I wille their be bought by myn ex[ecu]tours ij stones of marble to lay on my fader and moder with a scriptur of their names upon the stones & the day & yer of their dethe price bothe stones iiijli.
   And this is the last wille of me the said John Groveherst of alle my landes & ?yerley? rentes & ????? medowes leses pastures & ????? the which that I stoned seized in or any other to my behove made in the fest of Sent Mighell the Arch angell the ?? & the regne of King Edward the iiijth xiijth. Fyrst I wylle that all my feoffes stondyng & seised to my by hofe use or profite ??????? or severally make a state of all the said landes unto William Swanne John Freman & to William Bokland in fee a none after my decease att the request of myn executours. Furthermore they being so seized of all my said landes ?? be redy to deliver an estate to alle such persone or persones as myn executours maken sale to & myn exectours shal have pouere to sell them or any part therof to the moost value that they may be sold to without ??????? or any ????????? to that entent that my testament may be frieuly executed/ 
   I ordegne & make myn executours Beatrice Stokton my sister Richard Burleton & Wm Bokeland that they frieuly execute It as they woll answer afore god. 
   Probate not filled in. The next was ?? 10 Dece 1474 – the will before 17 Dec 1474.
