   Rents, after expenses to his wife for her life. After her death, After her death, upon further trust, for his children, Mary Ann, John Edward, Francis Jarvis and George James. Provision has already been made for his other children, Elizabeth Dale, Charlotte Vaughan and Joseph Phillips Mellin.
   Rest and residue, to his wife, she is executor.

Prerogative Court of Canterbury Will, dated 1st March 1802
Thomas Sugden, of Brompton, Gentleman.
   His own house in Garden Street, Brompton, to his sister, Mary Sugden, Spinster, for her life. After her death, then to his brother William for his life. After his death,then to his wife, Sarah, for life. After her death, then shared equally among her children, if any are dead, then to their children, for ever.
   Brother William can during life of his sister , Mary, live in the house with his family, paying reasonable rent to his sister.
   To brother William and friends, James Kincaid of Gillingham, Gentleman and Richard Brown of Rochester, Caulker, £600 in 5% annuities in Bank of England and £200 on bond, owed by nephew William Sugden, Junior, upon trust. Trustees to pay sister, Mary dividends for her life. After her death, they are to pay from £500 of the stock, dividends to his brother, William for his life. After his death, this will be shared equally among his children. The remaining £100 and the debt of £200, after death of his sister, upon trust, to pay brother Abraham, dividends and interest, for life. After his death, the money to be transferred equally among his children.
   To sister, Mary the use of all his household goods, except the plate, for life. After her death then to brother William, absolutely.
   His silver waiter, silver quart tankard and silver pint can to brother William.
   His silver butter boats and two silver goblets to brother Abraham. Residue of silver plate to sister Mary.
   £200 4% annuities in Bank of England, to his "faithful servant" Ann Coves and his gold watch, with chain and seal, plus £10 for mourning.
   To brothers William and Abraham, £20 each for mourning; £5 each to his executors for mourning.
   Residue of personal estate and effects, after expenses, to sister, Mary.
   William Sugden , James Kincaid and Richard Brown are executors.
   Witnesses: Pierce Edgcumbe, Edward Manclark and D. B. Lewis
Codicil dated 5th May 1806
   He had appointed James Kincaid and Richard Brown and brother, William, executors and trustees and gave them £5 each for mourning. He now revokes the appointment of the first two and their £5 legacy. His brother William and servant Ann Coves have died since will was made, Their legacies and that of brother Abraham, are to go into his personal estate and will go to sister, Mary.
   Witnesses: D. B. Lewis and Ann Ringsman
Codicil dated 29th October 1805
   He had devise, after death of sister, Mary, brother William, sister in law, Sarah, the house in Garden Street, to all the children of brother William. He now revokes this. The house now goes to all the daughters of bother William, or their children, if any are dead, equally shared.
   Witnesses: J.H.S. Dickens, Clerk to Messrs Twopenny, Attorneys, Rochester, Ann Ringsman, Servant to Mr Sugden and T. Dickens.

Thomas Jeffries of Gillingham, Shipwright.
 n  A marriage settlement dated 25th February 1743, between himself, his "now wife", Jane, then Jane Philpott, widow, Francis Pigot of Gillingham, Vicar and Thomas Holmden, Fisherman, the testator did covenant that in case his wife survived him, she should have soon after his death, one third of all household goods and stock in trade and other things, or £50 in lieu.
    He has for some time carried on the trade of Rope Maker with William Greenstreet, Rope Maker, a business which wife Jane carried on before their marriage. He now gives her his share in the business and money due from the business. He also gives her the lease of the rope ground when business is carried on by his wife. She should, by her will, release to his son Thomas, the one third of his household goods and all dower rights. To son Thomas, his real estate and residue of personal estate, upon condition that his widow continues to live in his house as long as she remains his widow, paying no rent, if she chooses to live in another house, son Thomas will pay her rent (out of testator's house) to her, this not to exceed £6. Son Thomas is executor.

Hartley Larkin of Chatham, Gentleman
   His two thirds share in 7 copy-hold houses on west side of St. John's Street, Hackney, occupied by Stephen Simmons, Richard Ward, John Williamson, John Goldsmith , James Dalton, William Weston and Joseph Effingham, subject to an annuity of £60, to grandson, Hartley Hickes of Chatham. To daughter, Elizabeth Larkin, of Chatham, for life, an annuity of £60 from the above houses. His 5 copy-hold houses also in St. John's Street, occupied by Thomas Wright, William Timewell, Joseph Gozzard, Ann Fernoth and William Starkie, one third of the income from theses is subject to an annuity of £30, to son in law John Cattarns, upon trust, until his youngest child by his late wife, Susannah, is 21. Until then the income from the latter properties to go towards their maintenance and education. When they are all 21, they will share this equally. Another third of the income from the latter properties To his daughter Ann wife of John Allen, of Chatham, for her life. After her death, the income equally shared by her children.
   To daughter, Elizabeth, for life, an annuity of £30, from one third of latter properties.
   His two houses in Gad's Hill, Gillingham, occupied by William Bray and John Dunn, to daughter, Elizabeth, for ever.
