The Discovery and excavation of a Late Iron-Age and Early Roman Farmstead at Viewpoint, Wellfield, Hartley, Kent 1975/76 and 1984 TQ6084/6842

Location of Site and Geology
The house View Point lies on the south side of the Longfield valley, in the northern sector of the parish of Hartley, Kent, at a height of 82 metres. This now dry valley runs from east to west and has a floor of alluvium.
The underlying geology of the site is chalk, with much of the natural capping of clay with flints eroded away by centuries of ploughing. The hillside falls away gently to the valley bottom.
The area was farmland until it was purchased by the Dartford District Council for the building of Council Housing.
