Chelsfield Wills - Part 1  Abstracts of will from Chelsfield proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
John Petty of Chelsfield dated 3 December 1748

Abstract of the will of John Petty of Chelsfield gentleman dated 3 December 1748.
   I give to my nieces Ann Petty and Elizabeth Petty and their heirs for ever all those several closes or fields, meadow and pasture, containing 42 acres in the parish of Seal, Kent, now in the occupation of Richard Walter, and all that wood coppice and wood ground called Grovefield Wood containing 25 acres in the parishes of Southfleet and Stone, Kent, , late in the occupation of Mrs. -------- Boss deceased and now in the occupation of Mr. George Barnes, and all that messuage or tenement and garden in St. Mary Cray, Kent now in the occupation of William Bagthwaite.
   I give to my nephew in law George Lake and Martha his wife and their heirs for ever all those two new erected messuages or tenements in Otford, Kent now in the occupation of Mr. Robert Bostock and Mrs. Ellen Bostock.
   I give to my cousin Robert Hammond and Mary his wife during their lives and the longer liver of them an annuity of £10 per annum to be paid half-yearly at Michaelmas and Lady Day.
   I give all that messuage or tenement and barn and all those several closes of meadow and pasture land containing 14 acres at Everham in the parish of Kemsing, Kent, now in the occupation of William Bennett to the said Ann and Elizabeth Petty and their heirs for ever.
   I charge the lands in the occupation of the said William Bennett with the payment of the said annuity of £10 to Robert and Mary Hammond and the survivor of them, who shall have power to enter upon the lands if the annuity remain unpaid.
   I give to the Rev. Mr. James Whitehouse £20.
   I leave all residue of my personal Estate to the said Ann and Elizabeth Petty, whom I appoint my Executrices.

Proved 16 July 1774 by Elizabeth Quilter formerly Petty, widow, the niece and surviving Executrix named in the will.               [PCC will PROB11/1000]
