Abstracts of will from Chelsfield proved in
the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
Nicholas Mace
of Chelsfield dated 4 October 1655
Abstract of the will of Nicholas Mace of Goddington in
Chelsfield yeoman dated 4 October 1655.
To be buried in the church or churchyard of Chelsfield.
I give 10s. to the poor of Chelsfield parish.
I give £10 to my son Robert Mace within one month of my
death, and a further £10 within a year. If he die before then I leave
this bequest to such of his children as shall be living, equally divided.
To my daughter Anne Jackson alias Rogers £5 within 12
months, but if she is dead by then, the bequest is to be distributed among
her children equally.
To the children of my son William Mace lately deceased, to
William 40s., and to Philip and John 40s. each at age 21 or on marriage.
I give all residue to my son Thomas Mace and appoint him my
Executor.
As to my lands in Chelsfield and elsewhere:
I leave to my son Thomas Mace all my moiety of a messuage or
tenement called Walnut Trees with the barns, stables etc. and also several
closes of land, pasture or arable, called Arnolds Croft, Wardy Croft and
Biggs Croft thereunto belonging, now in the tenure of Anne Jackson alias
Rogers widow – which lands I purchased of William Waklyn and John Waklyn.
I appoint my loving friend Mr. Edmund Thomas of Orpington to
be Overseer of this will and I give him 10s. to buy a ring.
Nicholas Mace witnesses Edmund Thomas, Christopher Thomas,
George Pike.
Proved 25 November 1656 by Thomas Mace the son. [PCC
