Abstracts of will from Chelsfield proved in
the Prerogative Court of Canterbury

of Chelsfield dated 2 June 1784
Abstract of the will of Barbara Judd of Chelsfield widow
dated 2 June 1784.
I appoint my good friends John Fuller of Hewets
Chelsfield yeoman and Richard Warren of Reynolds Smiths, St. Mary Cray
surgeon Executors and Trustees and I leave them £50 each.
I also leave to them £600 £3% Bank Annuities to apply
the interest as it becomes due to Mrs. Jane Day who now resides and for
many years has resided with me, or to her assigns during her lifetime.
At her death my Trustees are to transfer £200 Stock, part of
the said £600, to Thomas Day, son of the said Jane Day: £200 of the said
Stock to Elizabeth Wakeman, one of the daughters of the said Jane Day: and
£200 part of the said Stock to Sarah Gear the other daughter of the said
Jane Day.
I bequeath to my Executors £400 Stock, other part of the
£3% Bank Annuities belonging to me in Trust to pay the interest as it
becomes due to Mrs. Ann Judd, the widow of my late husband's brother
Solomon Judd, for life.
After her death, £200 of the said Stock is to go to Ann
Johnson the wife of Richard Johnson of Chelsfield husbandman; the other
£200 to Grace Day the wife of George Day of Chelsfield husbandman.
I leave to my friend Mrs. Elizabeth Waring, wife of the said
Richard Waring. £200 £3% Bank Annuities.
To Mrs. Catherine Few the daughter of my late friend the Rev.
Mr. Charles Meetkirk £200 £3% Bank Annuities.
I give £400 £3% Bank Annuities to all the children of my
cousin Thomas Burton of Brenchley yeoman, to all such as shall be living
at my death, in equal portions.
I give £20 to each of the following -
Sarah Everest the wife of Edward Everest of Chelsfield,
yeoman: Elizabeth Walker the wife of George Walker of Shoreham, Kent,
husbandman: Sarah Webb the wife of --- Webb of Shoreham husbandman: and
the before mentioned Thomas Day, Elizabeth Wakeman and Sarah Gear.
I give to the said Thomas Day all my late husband's wearing
apparel.
I give to my niece Mrs. Mary Aynscomb all my household linen
and 3 suits of my wearing apparel "one article of each sort such as
she shall chuse". All the rest of my wearing apparel I leave to the
said Mrs. Jane Day or if she should die in my lifetime to her daughters
Elizabeth Wakeman and Sarah Gear equally.
I also give to Mrs. Jane Day "all the furniture in the
Blue Bed Chamber in my Dwelling House."
I leave all residue of my personal estate to the said John
Fuller and Richard Waring in Trust to dispose of it by public auction and
also get in all debts owing to me, and from the proceeds to settle all my
debts, pecuniary legacies and funeral and testamentary expenses, and to
invest the remainder in Government or real [?] securities and to pay the
interest etc. as it arises to my niece Mary Aynscomb of Chelsfield widow
for life. After her death, they shall pay the interest etc. to her
daughter Mary Harris for her own use.
At her death, the principal is to be divided equally among
all of her children at age 21 or in the case of daughters at age 21 or on
marriage, whichever shall first happen. If any ie before their mother
leaving issue then his or her share is to go to such issue equally
divided.
If Mary Harris survive her mother but die without issue then
I leave one half of the securities among the children of my said cousin
Thomas Burton who are living at the death of the said Mary Harris, and the
other half similarly among the children of my late cousin Susanna Perrott,
sister of the said Thomas Burton.
If Mary Harris die before her mother without issue then the
securities are to go to her mother the said Mary Aynscomb.

Codicil dated 20 December 1787.
I give the following legacies over and above what I have
bequeathed in my Will -
To my good and much-respected friends the Rev. John Long DD
and Brass Crosby Esq. and Mrs. Crosby his wife I leave £5 each for a
mourning ring.
To Jane Day and to her 3 children Thomas Day, Elizabeth
Wakeman and Sarah Gear, named in my will, to my late husband's nephew
Henry Middleton,to my cousin Sarah Small, to Sarah Everest, Elizabeth
Walker and Sarah Webb, named in my will, and to my late husband's nephew
Thomas Judd £5 each.
To Mr. James Petty of Orpington gardener and to Mr.
Thomas Brooks of Chelsfield husbandman £20 each.
To each of my servants, Richard Day, John Ballard and Ann
Mills two guineas.
I revoke the legacies in my will of £20 each to Sarah
Everest, Elizabeth Walker and Sarah Webb, Thomas Day, Elizabeth Wakeman
and Sarah Gear.
