Abstracts of will from Chelsfield proved in
the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
Peter Coryton
of Chelsfield dated 11 May 1816
Abstract of the will of Peter Coryton DD, Rector of the
parishes of Chelsfield and Farnborough, and formerly Fellow of All Souls
College Oxford, dated 11 May 1816.
All debts and funeral expenses to be paid by my Executor. My
body is to be decently interred at whatever place I may chance to die with
as little expense as possible and without any vault or memorial to my
memory.
I give to my nephew John Tillie Coryton of Pentillie Castle
Cornwall Esq. £10,000 3% Consolidated Bank Annuities.
To the two daughters of my late sister Jane Margaret
Bloomfield £2000 apiece 5% Consolidated Bank Annuities and to the son [
not named] of my said late sister £1000 like Annuities at age 21. If he
die before then, to his said two sisters equally.
To Mrs. Cragoe the daughter of my late sister Mrs. Kemp
£2000 3% Consolidated Annuities for her sole and separate use and to be
at her own disposal notwithstanding her coverture.
To my butler Peter Bonython if living with me at the
time of my death but not otherwise the yearly sum of £26.4s. being the
amount of the Land Tax charged on the Parsonage Glebe Lands and Tythes of
the parishes of Chelsfield and Farnborough which I have redeemed or
purchased with the sum of £960.13.4d. 3% Consolidated Bank Annuities and
all my right Estate and Interest in and to the same and to the said
Annuities and the monies paid for the redemption thereof - to hold to the
said Peter Bonython his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns to and
for his heirs and their own use and benefit. I also give to the said Peter
Bonython if living with me at the time of my death £5000 3% Consolidated
Bank Annuities over and above what may be due to him for wages, to be
transferred to him within 3 months of my death.
I also leave him all my wearing apparel, my gold watch, gold
chain appended thereto, gold cornelian ring and sleeve buttons, gold
breast buckle and shoe and other buckles to be delivered to him as soon as
conveniently may be after my death.
To my housekeeper Elizabeth Bradshaw £50 if living with me
at the time of my death but not otherwise.
To William Peter Bonython the son of the said Peter Bonython
£100 and a suit of mourning, likewise as a keepsake my metal watch with
gold chain and appendages thereto.
To Francis Hearle Rodd [ ? ] of Trebartha Hall Cornwall Esq.
and his wife [not named ] £10 each for mourning rings.
To Mr. John Fuller of Chelsfield and his daughter Mary Fuller
£5 each for a ring.
To the said Mary Fuller all the plants in my greenhouse to be
delivered to her immediately after my death.
To Richard Day who is employed by me as a labourer the sum of
£20 and a suit of mourning as a reward for his integrity.
I leave £5 and a suit of mourning to each of the Domestic
Servants who may be in my service at the time of my death, over and above
the wages which may be due to them.
All residue of money, funds, goods chattels and personal
estate to my said nephew John Tillie Coryton and his heirs, and he to be
Executor. The legacies to Peter Bonython and the other servants are to be
paid free of legacy duty which shall be paid out of my personal estate.
Peter Coryton witnesses Thomas Walker, Dartford John Hills,
William Hills, Chelsfield.
Proved 3 April 1817 by John Tillie Coryton Esq. the
