Maxfield Hodsoll, was interested in matters antiquarian and did some research into his family history. His second Christian name was a very usual one in the family. The Hodsolls of Ightham, and later of’ 

Wrotham, never forgot that a forbear had married the daughter and heiress of a distinguished rector of Ash and with Maxfield. they quartered their arms.
