Toke's and others, Heraldic Ledger Stones in Kent churches

Mercy GILLOW 1746  St Nicholas at Wade

The medallion measures 23inch x 21⅞inch and is cut on a blue ledger stone 92inch x 45inch in the Chancel.

Arms: [Gu] a lion rampant [or] on a chief [of the last] three fleurs de lis [of the first]. Crest: A demi-lion rampant

In this Vault lies Interr’d ye Body of Mercy wife of Stephen GILLOW of this Parish, who departed this life Feb 12 1746 aged 40 years. Also Four of their Children (viz) Sarah who died Jan 10 1729, aged 8 months. Robert died April 6 1741, aged 5 years. Mercy died Jan 16 1746, aged 16 years. Margaret died Jan. 30 1746, aged 14 years. Here also lies Interr’d the Body of the above-named Stephen Gillow who died on the 12th of July 1771 Aged 67 years. Also Stephen & Mercy who died June the 21st 1781 Aged 49 years. Also Sarah Gillow, Daughter of the above Stephen & Mercy who died May 12th 1812 aged 73 years.
