Abstract of Will from Hythe, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of William WHITE of Hythe, Kent 8 March 1534-5

William WHITE, 8 March 1534-5.
Buried in churchyard of Saltwode, before the pulpytt (sic).
High altar for tithes 12d; of Newynton 8d. To the making of a Tabernacle to set St Peter in at the high altar end at Saltwood 40s.
Wife Alice 20 ewes, three kine, three hogs, all household stuff unless she marry, then have one part, and my two daughters Agnes and Denys other part of household stuff.
William, son of Thomas WHITE my son £6.13s.4d. when 24. If he die Thomasine his sister have 13s.4d.
My daughters Agnes and Denyse each have £3.6s.8d. at their marriage.
Executors – Edward MARSHE and Robert NOTTE, have residue to fulfil my Will.
Income from six acres called Horsecroft to the finding of five tapers of two pounds each to be renewed twice in the year – at Easter and Lammas Day, according to Will of my father John WHITE the younger.
Also out of three acres called Westyche to finding of St Peters Light 12d; to the Corpus Christi Light 12d; Our Lady 12d. yearly.
Executors sell land bought from William BROWNING, money to carry out my Will.
Wife Alice my dwelling house and one tenement in Town and Port of Hithe for life, doing repairs; also yearly out of my lands tenements in Saltwood £4 for ten years to keep my children. After the ten years 40s. yearly for life to wife.
Sons William and Peter all lands, etc. in Hithe, Saltwood, Newynton, when the youngest is 20, but if both die before 24 without lawful issue, lands, etc. be sold, and William NOTTE my daughter’s son shall by same before any other – the money 20s. to each daughter.
To repair highways £20 from the Stone Cross unto Highe Ward; to Idev (Edith) NOTT 13s.4d, and to each of her sisters 6s.8d.
A priest sing for our souls for a year £6.13s.4d. in Saltwood church, and the residue to repair Saltwood church where most need, or bad roads.
Witnesses – John SEWEN, curate, Thomas SPURGESSE, Thomas WALTER.
