Abstract of Will from Hythe, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Alice STEVYN of Hythe, Kent 10 December 1487

Alice, widow of Thomas STEVYN, late of Town of Hithe, 10 December 1487.
Buried in churchyard of St Leonard of Hithe.
High altar 8d. Brotherhood of St Peter 8d. Brotherhood of Our Lady’s Assumption in the Chapel 8d, and to Image of Our Lady’s Assumption a silver ring that was my mother’s, so that the Wardens of St Leonard’s Chapel have the keeping of the ring to the use of the Chapel.
To the Image of Our Lady in the Chapel of St Edmund, coral prayer beads, gold ring, crucifix, lawn kercher, so that the Wardens of St Leonard’s Chapel have the keeping for the use of the Chapel.
To the works (sic) of the Chapel my best towel.
To the painting of St Christopher 3s.4d. Parish priest 12d. Parish clerk 6d.
Margaret STEVYN a folding table, cupboard, three plates, dishes, sawcers of pewter, brass pot that was her father’s.
My house be sold by Executors, the money to a priest to sing for my soul, husband, for a year ten marcs (£6.13s.4d). For a Vestment to be bought for the Chapel 40s. To the Friars of Canterbury for 30 masses, 13s.4d. To the way between Hethe and Eastwell 3s.4d.
Residue of good after paying debts, etc. to my Executors, William LIGH and Thomas WALTER, to dispose for my soul.
