John NORLAND of Ebbene, 20 April 1496.
Buried in churchyard of St Mary of Ebbene.
High altar for tithes 12d. To each Light in the church 12d. To opus of the churchsury Book 6s.8d.
On day of burial, trental and anniversary six Chaplains to celebrate.
To making Campanil de Whittysham 20s. To Friars Minors of Wynchelse 3s.4d.
Executors – wife Juliane, Thomas WODE of Tenterden, and John MESEDDEN of Ebbene.
Feoffees – William MOSEDEN and William PETYYE.
Wife Julyan have all my lands in the parish, until my Eyres come to age of 22, seeing that my children be kept, but if she marry then my Executors take my lands, etc. to the behoof of my heirs, paying to my wife 40s. yearly for her life.
Son John when 22 have the place in which I dwell with the garden, the croft afore the gate, the land at Wallis end, Magam grove, ate Mogam feld, the Upperfeld and the salt marsh lying thereto, also a piece of land with a pond; to him and his heirs for ever, suffering his brother Thomas to fetch water at the pond as oft times as he needs.
Son Henry when 22, my third part of Mislond with a grove and piece of land thereto called Crokfeld, the Northfeld, the Ivis and old feld, and to his heirs for ever.
Son Thomas when 22, have my place called Thornys with ten acres of land thereto, and the field on the Northside, and the salt marsh thereto, three crofts in What fields, the elaymes, the Symons and the little Ryds, to him and his heirs for ever.
That the 40s. my wife shall have for life, until my sons come to age, by John 13s.4d, by Henry 13s.4d, by Thomas 13s.4d.
If any son died before 22, without issue, then my lands and tenements to them that are alive, but if all sons die without issue, then to be sold to value of £40: to the church of Ebbene £20, that is £10 to reparations and £10 to a vestments or to boks, which the parish wills; and ten marcs (£6.13s.4d) to foul ways in the parish where most needed; and 20 marcs residue of the £40 to a priest singing for two years within the church of Ebbene, for my soul, etc.
Daughter Joan when 18 years old to her marriage £10, but if she died then five marcs to reparation of church of Ebbene; and ten marcs to Henry my son if alive, or to the next heir.
Alys FIGGE shall have to her marriage 15s.
