Abstract of Will from Ebony, Kent from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Henry NORLAND of Ebbene, 19 June 1476.
Buried in churchyard of St Mary of Ebbene.
High altar 16d. Light of Brotherhood of St Mary in same church 4d. To the coe lumen in the church 6d. To House of Friars of Losynham 20d.
Residue after paying debts to wife Dionise and John NORLAND my son. William MOSEDEN and Robert ROLFF my Executors to dispose same in three parts, viz: (1) about my funeral expenses and to Joan, daughter of Thomas NORLAND 40s if same sufficient; and then residue of same first part to wife Dionise and son John to dispose for my soul. The second part of the residue to wife Dionise, and the third part to son John.
Wife Denys have a messuage with garden thereto called Thomys and six pieces of land thereto – one called Shereherdis, Longfeld at Norle, with a parcel of ground called Bartlotts towne, and three pieces to be called the Heeldis, containing in all ten acres, during her life, then to John my son and his heirs for ever.
Also wife Denys have all my lands at Norle called Clayments Goodlond and the Reches, and three pieces of land late bought from Thomas LEEDEN called Syomons and Marlyng, lying to said lands of Norle.
Also another parcel of land called Wat’felds lying to a Street called Mellstrete with the West, and so downe to the plot toward the east, containing 27 acres of land, for her life, then the 27 acres to Joan, daughter of Thomas NORLAND and her heirs for ever.
Son John have two pieces of land called Richardfeldis of four acres, paying yearly to wife Denyse 6s.8d. and every year 12d. of the rent that belongeth to the church of Ebene of a piece of land called Wat’feld beside the plot that the same rent of 12d. a year shall be bore and paid of the Rychard feldes by John my son and his heirs for ever, and so discharge the said Wat’feld of the said rent for ever. After death of Dionyse the two pieces of land to son John and heirs.

**His son Thomas NORLAND of Stone in Oxney died 1473.
Henry Northland, husbandman of parish of Ebney, was pardoned 7 July 1450 for having side with John Cade. A.C. vii. 269.
