Abstract of St Lawrence Thanet Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Bartholomew SAUNDER 31 Oct 1511 of St Lawrence Thanet

Bartholomew SAUNDER of St Lawrence in Thanet, 31 October 1511.
Buried in the church of St Lawrence in the Chancel before St James.
To the high altar 12d. To every Light in the church of which I am a Brother, a bushel of barley.
To Margerie SAUNDER a lamb. To Katherine SAUNDER a ketyll and 40s.
Residue of goods after paying debts etc. *Emer (sic) my son to dispose for my soul.
Executors – Wife Margery and son Emer.
For a surplice to the church 13s.4d.
Feoffees of all my lands and tenements – Richard THATCHER and Stephen CARR.
   Wife Margery have and occupy all my lands and tenements for one year after my death, then Emer my son have my chief tenement and all lands thereto, paying to Margery my wife 13s.4d. yearly, as long as she is a sole widow.
   That wife Margery have and occupy my tenement called Clerkes and two acres of land at Norkyns chalk pit, as long as she is a widow, but if she marry or at her death, then to Bartholomew the son of Richard the tenement called Clerkes and six acres of land with the garden when Bartholomew is of lawful age, but if he die without issue, then to Emer my son, and he to pay to Lanen (?Laven = Lavinia) my daughter 40s, and to Mabel my daughter 20s, and to each a pair of sheets.
The Barton that belongs to Clerke’s shall remain to son Emer.
Wife have all such stuff, corn and cattle as she brought with her.
Witnesses – Thomas THATCHER, Richard CARR, John KNOLLER, John GRANT.
