Abstract of St Lawrence Thanet Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of John HOWGLOTT of St Lawrence Thanet 24 April 1495

John HOWGLOTT of St Lawrence in Thanet, 24 April 1495.
Buried in churchyard.
High altar 20d. To each Light of which I am a Brother in the church 4d.
For providing a Chaplain to celebrate for my soul, etc, for quarter of a year in the church 33s.4d.
Alice EASTON have three ewes and 6s.8d.
Joan, daughter of John HOWGLOTT, junior, my son 6s.8d.
Wife Cristine all my utensilia in my camere, aule and kitchen.
Executors – wife Cristine, son John and Stephen TERREY have residue for my soul after paying debts, etc. with Nicholas FOOKYS, Vicar of the church supervisor.
Feoffees – Roger SAUNDER, William PEIRS, John COOPYN.
Stephen TERREY and Agnes his wife have three acres of land in three pieces at Rammysgate.
   Cristine my wife have hold and occupy all my other lands and tenements for her life, then to son John for life, and then to John, son of said John my son, when of lawful age, my chief tenement and three closures at the northwest side of my tenement cording to the quykfyrgth unto the Northhegge, to him and his lawful heirs.
Then Roger, son of John HOWGLOTT the younger when of lawful age have two of my other closures beside my tenement, to him and his heirs.
    And if the wife of John HOWGLOTT junior be with child – a man child , then when he is of lawful age, have as many acres of land as the two enclosures be of valour which Roger is limited. But if a mayde child to have 6s.8d. to her marriage.
   Also John, Roger and the man child when of lawful age, if their father John HOWGLOTT, junior be dead, have all the other lands equally. But if they all died before of age without heirs then the aforesaid lands and tenements remain to the heirs of John HOWGLOTT junior my son, but if none, then to Agnes my daughter the wife of Stephen TERRY and to her heirs for ever, but if Agnes died without issue then to be sold and money disposed by Feoffees and Executors, as they see best.
