Abstract of St Lawrence Thanet Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of John BENETT of St Lawrence Thanet 8 August 1488

John BENETT of St Lawrence in Thanet, 8 August 1488.
Buried in churchyard.
To every Light that I am a brother of a bushel of barley. To the church work there 12d.
Daughter Colette to her marriage a pair of sheets, blankets, quarter of wheat, malt, and a pan of six gallons.
Wife Alice all in my hawle, chamber and kitchen, eight ewes, a cow, two hogs, two pigs, eight bushels of wheat, twelve bushels of barley ,malt mesur, and all my lands and tenements until my sons are 16 years of age.
Executors - John THOMLYN and William PERSE.
Feoffees – William PERSE and John COPYN of Horsten.
Son Richard have a place called Martyns with a barn, three acres of land lying at Thomas Steyrsway, a rod of land at Clevysgate, when 16 years ago.
Son John the place that I live in and five yards of land at Broksbere, one acre under the place and one acre at Cheker by Ramysgat way, when 16 years old.
Sons William and Robert all the other part of my land equally when 16.
If any sons die before 16, the others to be heirs.
That Richard my brother have a garden in parish of Bryge, and to his heirs for ever.
The 40s. in my hands belonging to Alys BENETT my sister, to her.
