Abstract of Austen Family Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of John AUSTEN of Hothfield, 8 April 1515

John AUSTEN of Hothfeld, 8 April 1505.
Buried in churchyard.
Residue to wife Joan, my Ex’or.
Wife occupy and have profits from all my lands, tenements for life.
To my four daughters to their marriage 5 marcs (53s.4d.).
That half my lands go to ferme until the chamber be made.
If wife die before my four daughters (no names) be married and the chamber not made then my Feoffees pay my daughters and make the chamber.
My three sons – John, Richard, Thomas have my messuage with all lands thereto equally, each heir to other but if they all die, also my daughters die without lawful issue, the messuage and lands be sold and to 20 poor maidens of the parish at their marriage £6.13s.4d., residue to buy a Pix to bear in the Sacrament in the church.
