Abstract of Austen Family Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of John AUSTEN of Benenden, 14 May 1532

John AUSTEN of Beninden, 14 May 1532.
Buried in the churchyard.
Margery AUSTEN my daughter my great kettle, brass pot, etc.
Residue after debts paid to wife Joan my Ex’or.
Witnesses: William ELYNDEN, Thomas EVERINDEN, Thomas GILBERT, William CRYOR.
   Wife Joan all profits from my tenements, lands for life with eight loads of firewood yearly. After her death to William my son, his heirs and assigns for ever, paying to Stephen AUSTEN his brother 6s.8d. and to William, son of same Stephen AUSTEN £3.6s.8d. when he is 24, if William die before, then to John AUSTEN my godson, son of William AUSTEN.
Son William pay his sister Margery AUSTEN 13s.4d. as by Will of my father.
