Abstracts of Littlebourne Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Thomas DORAUNTIE of Littlebourne 16 Dec 1542

Thomas DORAUNTE OF Litleborne, 10 November 1542.
Buried in the church yard under the great palm [yew] tree, betwixt the church and the palm tre.
   High alter for tithes 4s. At my burial Dirige and 5 masses by the vicar and four other priests with the clark.
   At my burial there to be baked in bread two seames of wheat, and given to poor people.
   Wife Joan all my stock of cattle corn and money where we dwell in my new tenement, and also all debts due to me, except those my son John owes, he to be given 40s.
   Wife Joan the bed with all thereto in the parlour at the court (sic) and the cupboard in my hall shall stand still with half the laten and pewter to my son William, and half to my wife which she doth occupy daily. Also there shall belong to the house the best bed with all thereto, 6 pair of sheets, and brass pot in my new house, the little chest, fold (folte) table, from in the hall.
   Residue in my new house to wife Joan.
   Wife have for life my tenement with all thereto with Cowks garden, then to son William for life, then to his male issue, if none to John my son and his male issue, but if none then sold and money equally to any daughters of William and John, but if none, money bestowed for our souls.
   Wife Joan have profit from seven kine, and at death of my wife one each to Amy and Thomasine daughters of Thomas BOWKINE; and to Thomasine, Mildred, Emme, Elisabeth, the daughters of William DORAUNTE. Two of the kine be at ferme at Asshe, one at GOLDSMITH’S.
   Son John shall give yearly to his mother two bacon hogs, she paying 2s.8d. yearly for their keeping.
   John, Richard, Thomas, Michael ELGARE each one ewe lamb.
   Son John all my stock of sheep paying to his mother three quarters of wool to find her cloths with.
   Alice COWPER four bushels of wheat and of malt at her marriage.
   Son John shall give yearly to the Brotherhed of Harbaldowne two bushels of wheat against Christmas, they to pray for my soul, parents, etc.
  Ex’or – Son John, and have residue with John TOFTES, overseer.
   Witnesses – John ENYVER, clerk, vicar there, John DORAUNT senior, James KENTON.
