Abstracts of Littlebourne Wills from Arthur Hussey’s Manuscripts

Will of Laurence BROWNE of Littlebourne 15 September 1545

Laurence BROWNE of Lytilborne, 17 November 1545 (sic).
   Buried in church yard betwixt the tomb of my uncle Thomas DURRANT and the palm tree [i.e. yew tree]. High altar 12d.
   At my burial a bushel of wheat in half penye bread to poor people.
   Richard STRONGE my wife’s son my hand-mill that I work on, 4 hammers, 2 yarnes [irons], 3 nail tools, one nailing hammer, pair of belows that stand in the loft, a chest and all my stuff pertaining to my shop. All the yarne (iron) bought at London.
   Emlyn my wife all my catell, my tenement for her life then to Richard STRONGE if he out live his mother, if not then to my sisters children, paying to Emlyn my wife’s daughter £4 by 20s. yearly.
   To my mother [not named] 20s. and to my sister’s children 6s.8d.
   William my apprentice one ewe lamb. To my father in law (sic) my best doublet, a bow, 12 shafts.
   Wife Emlyn my lease of land in Church-field.
   Residue after paying debts etc. to wife Emlyn who with Richard STRONG, Exors.
   Witnesses: John ENYVER, clark, vicar, John MOTE, Robert LUKINE.
